Ok, this is my new favorite thing in the world... Cory and I were introduced to the great world of Geo Caching (sounds like cash) this week by Bro. Nathan McDonald from Oklahoma City and his youth group (THANK YOU !!!).
We have church on Monday nights and about half way through song service about 15 or 16 of the Mac's youth group walk in out of no where! It was a great surprise and we had slammin church! One guy was shouting and hit his head on the edge of the platform and couldn't see straight and was throwing up and stuff... I felt so sorry for him, lol Seriously ...
Well, Bro. Mac informed us that they had brought sleeping bags and air mattresses and were going to stay in the church, lol Needless to say...... very few sleeping bags were put to use.
After church we went to Pizza Hut and about 11:30pm Bro. Mac said that he had printed out some Geo Caches and told me and Cory that we would love it... we really had no idea what we were in store for...
The way he explained it was kind of like a scavenger hunt... he had a GPS (not a car one, like a ...... hunting one or something) and there is this website (i just signed up) you go to, www.geocache.com and you put in your zip code and whatever mile radius that you want and it will give you the code to enter into your GPS and it will lead you within feet of these caches.
I know, you are thinking... WHAT THE WORLD IS A CACHE ... They are different things, some of them were altoid boxes, some were 35mm film canisters, some were ammo cans ... different things. They are all covered in something to camoflauge them (camo duct tape on most of them).
The fun part is finding them... cause you really don't get anything when you DO find it, lol But in every one of them, ther is a paper that you sign and date when you found it and you put it back exactly as you found it. YOU WON'T BELIEVE HOW MANY NAMES ARE ON THERE !!!!!!!
I have never heard of this in my life and have TOTALLY been missing out ! We cached from 11:30 that night after church until 7:30 THE NEXT MORNING !!!! It was such a blast... and no... i did not go to work that day, lol
On one of the chaches, we had to drive on this little road in the middle of nowhere, park, climb through a barbed wire fence, walk .67 of a mile, climb through ANOTHER fence, go down the side of a mountain (not really, but it felt like it, lol) then walk on a gas line road until we came to the spot and we almost didn't find it... it was SUPER camo'd ... finally someone found it... under a stick, lol
One of them was in a grave yard... pitch black outside, 2:30am ... it was great :)
One was behind a rock in a little brook in the mountains, one was RIGHT BESIDE OUR CHURCH, one was in a fence post... i mean, these things are EVERYWHERE !!!! Even in Ozark, lol I had no clue, I mean... some of these places i have driven by and walked by 100's of times...
I know some of you are thinking... wow, that sounds like NOT alot of fun, lol But trust me, it is great! It's really great when it is 4:00 am and there are 15 people crawling around on their hands and knees in the woods with flash lights and cars are passing on the road and slowing down like ... whaaaaaaat is going on, lol Great fun !!!!!'
You are supposed to be sneaky about it but... how can 15 people be sneaky???
